Someone sends you a TeraBox link, you tap it, and the page asks you to install an app before you can do anything useful. It is one of the most common complaints about TeraBox. The good news is that for public shares you don't need the app at all. This guide shows how to get a video or file from a TeraBox link using only a web browser.

Why TeraBox pushes the app

TeraBox is free cloud storage with a large allowance, and like many free services it earns money by keeping users inside its own app, where it can show ads and offer premium plans. That is why the web version often limits previews, slows downloads, or keeps showing an "Open in app" banner. None of that changes the fact that the file itself is publicly shared. A browser-based tool can read the same public information and hand you the file directly.

What you need

Step-by-step

  1. Copy the link. On a phone, long-press the link in the chat and choose "Copy link". On a computer, copy it from the address bar.
  2. Open the downloader. Go to the TeraBox Download homepage.
  3. Paste and press Download. Tap the Paste button or paste manually, then press Download. In a second or two you will see the file name, size and a thumbnail.
  4. Choose Stream or Download. Stream opens the video in a player in your browser. Download saves the original file to your device.
  5. Find the file. On Android it goes to the Downloads folder. On iPhone it goes to the Files app, under Downloads. On a computer it goes wherever your browser saves files.

Folders with many files

If the share is a folder, the tool lists every file it can read. Download them one by one, or start with the largest and let the others queue in your browser. If a folder is very large, consider asking the sender to share a ZIP instead.

Getting the best speed

TeraBox controls how fast its servers send data, so speed varies by time of day and by your location. A few things help:

Is it safe?

The tool only reads the public link; you are not asked for your TeraBox password and you don't need an account. Still, treat downloaded files like any file from the internet. Videos (MP4, MKV) are generally low risk, but be careful with EXE, APK or archives from unknown senders and scan them before opening. Our article Is TeraBox safe? goes into more detail.

Respect the owner

A share link being public doesn't mean the content is free to reuse. Download your own files, files shared with you for that purpose, or content whose owner allows it. If you are a rights holder, our DMCA page explains how to report a link.

Common problems

If you see "share not found", the link was probably deleted or mistyped. If you see file details but no download button, TeraBox may be limiting that file for a while. These cases and more are covered in How to fix TeraBox download errors.

Summary

You don't need the TeraBox app to get a shared video. Copy the link, paste it into TeraBox Download, and choose Stream or Download. It works on phones and computers, takes a few seconds, and keeps your device free of yet another app.

Why a browser downloader is often the better choice

No extra software on your phone Every app you install asks for permissions, runs background services and takes storage. If you only need one or two files from a friend or colleague, installing a full cloud storage client is overkill. A web-based TeraBox downloader runs in the browser you already have, and when you close the tab nothing keeps running.

Works on shared and school computers
On a work laptop or a library PC you usually cannot install apps at all. A browser tool works anywhere you can open a web page, which makes it handy when you need a file for a presentation or a class.

Same original file The file you get through a direct link is the same file the owner uploaded. Nothing is re-encoded or compressed, so a 1080p video stays 1080p and a ZIP archive keeps its exact contents.

Choosing the right link

A TeraBox share link can point to a single file or to a folder. Single-file links are the easiest: you paste them and get one download button. Folder links show a list, and you choose the files you want. If the person sharing with you has several files, ask them for a folder link rather than ten separate links. It saves you time, and you can see everything in one place.

Links come in a few shapes, such as https://www.terabox.com/s/1abcXYZ or https://1024terabox.com/sharing/link?surl=abcXYZ. Both point to the same share. Our guide to TeraBox link formats explains each one.

Downloading large videos

Use Wi-Fi Large videos can be several gigabytes. Switch to Wi-Fi before you start so you don't use up your mobile data, and keep the screen on during long downloads on phones that pause background tasks aggressively.

Check free space first A download that runs out of space fails near the end, which wastes time. Look at the file size shown by the tool and make sure you have at least that much free, plus a little extra.

Preview before you save If you are not sure a video is the right one, press Stream first. Watching the first few seconds is much quicker than downloading the whole file. You can learn more in our TeraBox player guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free? Yes. The tool is supported by ads, and there is no paid plan or download limit on our side.

Will the owner know I downloaded the file? Public shares are meant to be opened by anyone who has the link. TeraBox may count views or downloads, but we do not send your identity to anyone.

Can I download without the app on iPhone? Yes. See our iPhone and Android guide for where Safari saves files and how to move videos to the Photos app.

More questions

Does downloading without the app reduce video quality?

No. You get the original file exactly as it was uploaded.

Try the tool: the TeraBox Video Downloader page lets you do this right now in your browser, with no app and no login.
